Facilitators share their development and skills

We held our first Learning Review Day in December for our team of facilitators who deliver Caring with Confidence to carers across England. The event aimed to provide additional development and learning for our facilitators, enable them to share experiences of delivering the programme and get them motivated and inspired to continue their excellent work during 2010.

Guest speaker, Ros Taylor - psychologist, broadcaster, author and coach - led a motivating talk, getting the facilitators involved in tasks to increase positive thinking.

Paul Woolley, Caring with Confidence Development Manager, said: “As the Caring with Confidence programme continues to grow and more sessions are delivered, it is imperative that the skills and knowledge our facilitators have gained are shared. Not only will this help us improve the programme but also continue to support our facilitators development.”

Spotlight.... on Sunderland

Bringing you stories from around the regions our spotlight features showcase the good work, achievements and ideas coming from Caring with Confidence Providers in reaching out to carers in their area.

Carers from across Sunderland who have been taking part in the Caring with Confidence programme, came back together at a reunion supported by local MP, Sharon Hodgson.

Sunderland Carers Centre, who run the Caring with Confidence sessions in Sunderland, Gateshead and South Tyneside organised the event to give the carers the opportunity to get back together and share how they are putting into practice what they gained from the programme.

Sessions roll out in Turkish

A group of carers from the London Borough of Haringey whose first language is Turkish are the first to benefit from the Caring with Confidence programme being delivered in a language other than English.

With a Turkish population in Haringey of over eight and a half thousand, the programme is proving popular with a strong attendance at the first four sessions which have taken place. A further three are scheduled for the New Year.

Caring with Confidence, facilitators Nurcan Cahill and Sanem Sahin who are both fluent in Turkish, are delivering the programme in London through one of our Providers - the Expert Patients Programme Community Interest Company.

Nurcan said: “It is great how well the sessions are being received and we are pleased to be able to provide the Turkish speaking community with the Caring with Confidence programme. Not only are we running the whole of each session in Turkish we are also making slight changes where we need to, to give all the carers a clear understanding.

“This is the first time that a course like Caring with Confidence has been run in Turkish and from the success so far, we are considering other areas in London that may benefit.”
